Lost in Transition? New Perspectives on Change

Description
Lost in Transition is a multinational civic and historical education program dedicated to the collapse of the Soviet Union and the subsequent transition years. The main focus is on multi-perspective work with contemporary witnesses from Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Poland and Ukraine, who offer perspectives that go beyond widespread narratives and accepted historical assumptions. Representatives of ethnic and religious minorities, women, refugees and other groups act as witnesses, showing what different social groups lived in the Soviet Union and how they felt the consequences of the transition.
Outcomes
- Three videos have been filmed on the following topics: "The Transition Period and Soviet Dissidents", "Science and Industry in the Transition Period" and "Refugees". Educational materials have been developed based on the videos.
- Three teachers from the republic have been retrained as trainers to familiarize their fellow teachers with the program tools and educational materials.
- Workshops have been organized to familiarize with new educational materials, involving teachers from different regions of Armenia.
- Workshops have also been organized for witnesses of the transition period to prepare them for effective meetings with students. Ten meetings have been held with the participation of witnesses and students.
The videos and materials are specifically dedicated to the experience of vulnerable groups during the transition period and thus present an impartial and multilateral view of the political and social transformations of the 1990s.
